Walking
Coachman's House is ideally located for those that love walking. The village of Coniston is the heart of The Lake District not only making it easy
to access all areas of the Lakes, but is home to some fantastic walks just minutes from the door. At the house there are ordnance survey maps covering the whole of The Lake District and various walking guides that we hope you will find helpful. Below you will find a few local favourites but we also recommend a casual stroll through the village and down to Coniston Lake which is just a 10 to 15 minute walk from the house.

Approx 5 miles | 3-4 hours
Turn left out of the drive and after a few steps you are on the fell side on the route up to the Old Man of Coniston
Coppermines trail.

Approx 2 miles
Next to the house you will find a bridleway and footpath which leads to Tarn How's via Tom Gill waterfall. An easy walk with spectacular views over Coniston hills and Langdale Pike.

Approx 4.3 miles or 2.2 miles
A 7km walk along the shoreline of Coniston Water. For those that prefer a shorter walk, get the return boat from Torver Jetty. The boat centre is approx 1 mile from the house.

Approx 3 miles | 2 hours
This moderate walk starts approximately 4 miles from the house and offers views of many fells including Lingmoor, Bowfell and the pike of Blisco. The Quarry is not to be missed and if you are feeling adventurous you can walk the extra 4 miles each way from the Bridleway next to the house.

A short but steep walk will reward you with spectacular views of Windermere and the stunning central fells of the Lake District, with plenty of resting places and picnic sites.

Fell walker Alfred Wainwright has described this as 'the finest mile in lakeland." A four mile walk takes you from Grange to Castle Crag with amazing views of the valley.
Mountain Biking
If you would like to do some cross country mountain bike riding let us know and we would be happy to suggest some routes. There is secure bike storage at Coachman's House and rides available from the house so there is no need to drive if you don’t want to! There is a MTB guide at the house covering the Lakes. Grizedale and of course Whinlatter are worth a visit. There are some great bike shops in the locality at Ulverston, Grizedale, Ambleside, Wheelbase at Stavely Mill Yard and Whinlatter.
